Kala Khatta...the Bitter Truth

Kala Khatta- A traditional Indian tangy black coloured sharbat/slush or cold drink which is commonly available in most of the upper hemispheres of India..This is available in 2 variations..1 as a drink and another as an ice candy which is called Chuski..


One such Cold Drink shop which specially serves this drink is Kala Khatta Cold Drink House.This is located just opposite to the Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus,Mumbai.Herds of people gather here and drink away this energizing drink.Well...me too!!




The guy here adds the Khala Khatta syrup (syrup made out of the fruit called Jamun ),pepper,black salt and common salt with lots of ice.In less than a minute, glasses are passed onto the thirsty crowds who gulp it within a second..atleast i do..

Kala Khatta translates in english to "Black Bitter" ... he he.. :-)

The other drinks available here are Lemon Juice,White Rose,Orange,Sekonjbin,Red Rose and Pineapple..am yet to taste these though!
